WHO is Murphy and WHY does he have a LAW??!!

Murphy's law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".It is used as either a purely sarcastic musing that things always go wrong, or, less frequently, a reflection of the mathematical idea that, given a sufficiently long time, an event which is possible (non-zero probability) will almost surely take place. Although, in this case, emphasis is put on the possible bad occurrences. -Wikipedia
When you are about to embark on one of the most exciting and financially draining weeks of your life (after your wedding and honeymoon, and of course after 20+ years of figure skating bills) WHY is it that both cars break down?
When you are running late to work (which is an everyday occurrence these days) why is it that the weather report didn't tell you it was going to snow?
When it snows, why does the pilot light on the furnace choose THAT MOMENT to go out?
Of course, there is a flip side to this: Why, when you are screaming about a ticket SNAFU (if you don't know what that is, WIKI it), do you receive a call telling you that you are going to be a grandparent?
When you are feeling overwhelmed, why is it that long lost friends appear out of nowhere and make you smile because they cared enough to find you after a seeming lifetime of absence?
So, who is/was Murphy? According to Wikipedia -
Edward Aloysius Murphy, Jr. (January 11, 1918 – July 17, 1990) was an American aerospace engineer who worked on safety-critical systems. He is best-known for the eponymous Murphy's Law, which is said to state, "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."
I guess there is always an equal and opposite reaction to almost every situation. Thank you, Mr. Newton. I'll run with that one as our E Ticket Ride continues. That's how I find humor in my daily life right now, even when steam is coming out of my ears!!
