A Personal Note on Passages

I have to admit it has been a struggle to put things into perspective these past weeks. So much change has been going on; personally most of it great and exciting - sometimes confusing - but an adventure nonetheless.

It certainly has been heightened with the addition of our first granddaughter. Sophie Alexandra joined this slightly off-center family at her decidedly own schedule, keeping us all up and glued to our cell phones and text messages for nearly 2 days and nights as she looked around, gathered up her things and then decided to make her grand entrance into our world on September 8. Tired and excited mom, exhausted dad and sleep deprived grandparents, aunts, uncles and great grandparents all breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Sophie had arrived.
Our Eagle had Landed.

Like so many others in this extended family tribe, Sophie will be a force to be reckoned with and she is already making that clearly known. How special it will be to witness the scripting of the prologue and then watch as she outlines her own chapters: First in spittle, then pablum and mashed peas; followed by a rainbow of crayon colors, finger paints and pastels. Of course, those of us who know better, if not best, realize this part will move all-too quickly, so we will savor every moment while we can.

Welcome Sophie Alexandra. I, for one, cannot wait to chronicle your adventures as I take on my new role. The only favor I would ask is that you explore your own world in your own way. Just let us be there to guide you, but mostly let us come along for the ride. It is your turn for exploration. And when you find your path, I can guarantee your grandfather will be there yelling "Go Alexandra!!"
With Love and Excitement for all the Possibilities Ahead,

Memey
