Short Stop on the Road To Greensboro: Time Has Come Today.

I survived the 60s. I still love the music.

I woke up this morning thinking about the fact that we leave for the U.S. National Championships in 13 days and the only thing that started going through my head was the Chamber Brothers song "Time Has Come Today."

What is it about our life experiences that they seem to live in snippets of music lyrics? There are days when a song will get stuck in my head and I can't get rid of it. Someone told me to get it to stop you need to sing the lyrics to "America" from Westside Story. I tried that. Those lyrics then got stuck in what's left of my brain and a mental video of the dance number was on constant replay.

Shakespeare said, "If music be the food of love, play on." Given how many tunes are iPlaying through my gray matter these days, I must be particularly in love with stress eating.

  1. I certainly identify w/ the Out Of Order sign. I had read that there is snow on the ground now on 49 of the 50 states. I posted it on FB noting, "every state by Maine." What I meant was "Florida." I had been E-mailing back & forth w/ a frozen Florida friend and we were talking about Maine. The two got jumbled in my own out-of-order mind. - Claire

  2. Oh, I am so glad that even the pros make those mistakes, Claire :) The question is this: Were you singing while writing about Florida or writing while singing about Maine? It's a conundrum..

  3. Now those songs are stuck in my head! lol! Smell is supposed to be the strongest stimulator of memories, but I think music must be a very close second. I can keep songs running through my head for days on end. Fortunately, I enjoy it! By the way, I hope Jeremy (and you) have a great nationals!

  4. Thanks, Deb! Hopefully, we will get to see you again sometime soon!

For me, smells are equal to music in evoking memories. I have very distinct memories with certain odors. Sometimes that's a good thing; sometimes not so much :)
