Tomorrow


It is nearly the end of the season and I'm trying to decide if I am channeling Will Shakespeare's speech for Macbeth on Tomorrow, or lyrics from the musical "Annie."

The World Championships in Nice, France, are less than two weeks away and right now I'm feeling like that guy in The Scottish Play

"Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,To the last syllable of recorded time."

In short: It's dragging.


I'm making my reservations. I have hotel; I have air transport to CDG in Paris (that's airline speak for Charles DeGaulle airport) thanks to some great friends at United who have kindly offered me special passes. I (think) I have ordered tickets through our skater's agent,  but I'm never sure since she lives on the other side of the planet. I have notified most of my skating friends that I will, indeed, be making the trek to Nice and I've warned most French citizens living in close proximity they need to be prepared for yet-another crazed skating mom to invade the tranquil shores of the Mediterranean.
I have weighed the (50 lbs or less) consequences of bag checking vs. carry on and determined there is no way in anything even resembling Hades I could possibly squeeze my cosmetics and my clothes into one case that would make it through a TSA inspection. After all, I am not my daughter who, for her seven week honeymoon sojourn through Australia and New Zealand, packed her life in a backpack. For me, it takes time, creams, foundation and a lot of blush to look this good because, "All our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death."


The other side of me is Annie.

"When I'm stuck a day That's gray, And lonely, I just stick out my chin-And Grin- And Say, Oh!..(expletive deleted)" this is going to be one long week-and-a-half of planning, emailing, paying through the nose and preparing for a new kind of stress. I've only been to Worlds in Los Angeles and that doesn't count. The last time I was in Nice I was 18. The last time I was in France, I spoke fluent French. I'm now 3.6 times older with "Sometimer's Disease" and J'ai oublié les mots (thank God for Google Translate!).


But while "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in its petty pace," I have to get ready because "The sun'll come out Tomorrow So ya gotta hang on 'Til tomorrow Come what may.. Tomorrow! Tomorrow!I love ya Tomorrow! You're always A day A way!"


So, onward and upward!! It's becoming clear to me now; how I view the next 10 days is truly all a matter of degree.

By the way, has anyone seen my 3 oz TSA approved deodorant?

  1. We will be with you in spirit, or is that "with spirits"? At what hour of the day or night will we be up watching IceNetwork this time?? Hoping you can keep that Annie side fizzing and that this is the best Worlds ever!

  2. Love it...again! Sometimes you just have to say what the (bleep)! And I so understand about cosmetics...it takes quite a lot to make me look natural. Best to you as you await your journey! And may your travels be safe!
